The tram museum

The tram museum will be open every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday from 24th March to 7th october 2012.

Photo prise le 29 Janvier 2011 dans le hall Cudell (Musée de woluwé)Built in 1897, at the same time as the Avenue de Tervuren, Woluwé was for many years a large depot housing many trams that fed several routes serving different parts of Brussels.

Through the years and after the building of the Metro the depot became, slowly but surely, less important.

There was an empty space and this did not go unnoticed by certain people !. That is how, in 1982, the Musée du Transport Urbain Bruxellois (Brussels Urbain Transport Museum) was set up in part of the premises

25 years later, in 2007 and 2008, the site underwent radical renovation, without losing its historic aspect.

To-day the STIB (Société des Transport Intercommunaux de Bruxelles) still occupies part of the buildings and routes 39 and 44 are operated from this depot. The Museum occupies the rest of the building where members of the association, all volunteers, will be pleased to welcome you and take you back in time.

Looking around the 1,500m² exhibition halls you will see a large collection of trams, buses, taxis, and a trolleybus which have served the capital since 1869 . These will help you relive the story of public transport in the Brussels region. Many of them are still in working order thanks to the work and motivation of numerous volunteer members of the association.

After you have admired these ancestors, you can even get on board one of them for a trip through the Soignies forest and to the Cinquantaire.
